Thailand Expat Chess Challenge 2014 is the tournament held alongside the Thailand National Chess Championship 2014 and the Thailand National Blitz Chess Championship 2014. The Thailand Expat Chess Challenge Tournament is open only to players without Thai nationality who have resided in Thailand at least one year, while the Thailand National Blitz Chess Championship 2014 is open to both Thai nationals and expats who have stayed in Thailand for at least one year.

  1. Tournament System and Time Control

 

2.1         For Expat Challenge, the tournament is a 7-round Swiss System. Pairings shall be done by using the Swiss Manager Program.For Blitz Tournament, the tournament shall be a 15-round Swiss System(In casemore than 20 players.). In case not more than 20 players, this shall be a round-robin.

 

2.2         Each player is accorded with 90 minutes to complete the entire game with 30 seconds increment for each move, starting from move one.

 

2.3         For Blitz Tournament, the time control shall be 3 minutes plus 2 seconds per move. And players need not record their moves.

 

2.4         Any player who fails to be present within 60 minutes (3 minutes for Blitz) after the game has started shall be considered lost by default in that round, and if he/she is declared lost by time default for two rounds, he/she shall not be paired to play in the rest rounds of the tournament.

 

2.5         Any player who misses any round of play will not be paired in the following rounds, and may be considered to have withdrawn from the tournament, unless he/she notifies the Chief Arbiter otherwise well in advance in writing.

 

Also, the player who misses any round of play without notifying the arbiter in advance in writing shall be subjected to disciplinary action, whereby he/she shall be obligated to make payment of deposit at Baht 500.00 for any future tournament held of jointly held by TCA. Repeated offence shall be tantamount to increased deposit by two folds.

 

2.6         Except for Blitz Tournament, a player must record his/her moves and of his opponent no matter how much time he/she has left on the clock, and i obliged to hand over the scoresheets to the arbiters at the end of each round. In the case of a win, the winner shall hand over the scoresheets to the arbiters, and in case of a draw, the player with White shall deliver the scoresheets to the arbiters.

 

2.7         FIDE Law of Chess shall apply. Results will be sent to FIDE for rating calculations. Only players with FIDE ID No. can enter to play in this tournament. If any player has no FIDE ID No. just yet, please contact your Federation to apply for FIDE ID.

 

2.8         Players are not allowed to bring mobile phones or other electronics devices with computer program therein into the playing area. Failure to comply with this rule shall result in losing the game.

 

2.9         The Chief Arbiter’s decisions are final

 

2.10     The Organizer shall have the rights to change the regulations without notifying the players.

 

2.11     The Organizer reserves the right to adjust the prize money and other prizes as well as other tournament regulations according to the circumstances and suitability at any time.

 

 

 

  1. Thropies

Thropies shall be awarded for the winners only. If players are tied for position(s), then the tie-break according to Article 4 shall apply.

 

  1. Tie-Breaks

 

ForSwiss Pairing System:

  1. Direct Encounter
  2. Median Buchholz 2
  3. Buchholz Cut 2
  4. Number of games won.

 

For Round Robin System:

  1. Direct Encounter.
  2. Number of games won.
  3. Number of games won with black pieces.

 

  1. Registration and Entry Fees

There is no entry fee.

 

Players who wish to participate in the tournament can submit their applications athttp://thailandchess.or.th/wordpress/?page_id=487&lang=enby 4th September 2014. Late registrations shall only be allowed to play from round 2 onwards.

 

Players who have submitted their applications must report in person to the Organizer on 5th September 2014 not later than 8.30 hours, or else they shall not be paired for the first round.

Third Runner-up                         Prize Money at Baht 4,000

Fourth Runner-up                       Prize Money at Baht 2,000

 

Prize money will be shared among the players who have equal points.

 

All prize money shall be subjected to tax withholding according to Thai Revenue Law.
